Courses are designed to lead to a student being ordained or licensed to an authorised ministry in the Church of England. Other students are welcome to take the courses as well, but not all parts are available to independent students.
All courses consist of taught modules on one evening per week during term time. Those training to be readers or to be ordained will also have a number of residential weekend courses and, for ordinands only, a week long residential school.
All students can attend a number of practically focused Saturday Workshops.
Training for both Ordinands and Reader students generally takes three years and will lead to the award of a Foundation Degree (FdA) in Christian Theology and Ministry from the University of Gloucestershire. Students with significant prior qualifications can also study for a BA (honours) degree in Applied Theology. This can also be added to the WEMTC course by students later in life when they feel ready.
The emphasis is on training for ministry and so a significant part of the course involves placements, formation and competency skills.
Other candidates may do more taught modules, but the emphasis is always on practical application of theology to ministry.
