The normal pathway for ministerial students will be to take APT 399, which is a portfolio built up over two or more years of ministerial experience, possibly add APT 398 - a placement in another parish or in a chaplaincy (which is common in the curacy years) and take three or four modules from the list below.  The degree will be completed by a double module dissertation on a topic of applied theology of relevance to their ministerial experience and practice.

The Ordinary Degree, BA in Applied Theology

The University has the option of a non-honours degree which only requires 60 CATS points at level three (after obtaining 240 at levels I & II ).  Students who wish to take this pathway need to seek advice, but a combination of  APT399 (professional practice skills), the Ministerial Placement and one further module will satisfy the requirements.

Entry to the Applied Theology (APT) Level III course requires students to already have a Foundation Degree or DipHE in Christian Theology.   This will include almost all those ordained in the Church of England or Methodist Church over the last ten years or more. The link above will take you to the University of Gloucestershire’s website

For the Honours Degree, students must

this course is suspended for new students at present pending revision

This Course is (at present) FREE to those in licensed ministry

The course is part-time and is expected to take at least TWO years.

The subject specific modules run on a two year cycle, with at least one available every semester. Student need to plan ahead if they want to take a specific module.

The Independent Study Module can be used, by negotiation, for a subject that is not available as long as teaching can be arranged.

Ministerial Students are encouraged to register early for the Professional Practice Skills module: this can include almost all that training officers provide as a post ordination training programme. It takes, generally, two years to complete and involves compiling a portfolio of ministerial experience.
